In Telangana, for alcohol lovers, no festival is complete without having some pegs and given the festive spirit of Dussehra, liquor worth hundreds of crores were consumed in a span of just four days. This has brought huge revenue for the Excise Department.
Rs 812.24 crores in four days
With the festive season around the corner, liquor traders requested the state excise department for bulk order to stock alcohol in advance, especially demand had been high for whisky and beer. In a four-day span, liquor sales worth Rs 812.24 crores were recorded thereby filling the state government coffers. Usually, liquor traders on normal days purchase alcohol worth Rs 80-90 crores from the Telangana State Beverages Corporation Ltd.
On October 22nd alone, alcohol and beer worth Rs 305.96 crores were purchased and the government on monthly basis rakes in a revenue of Rs 2,200 crores. However, on October 27th it was noted that the sales had soared over Rs 2,200 crores, with excise officials expecting revenue of more than Rs 2500 crores by the end of the month.
