‘Penguin’, which was the much awaited thriller was released on OTT due to the pandemic. It stars ‘Mahanati’ fame Keerthy Suresh and the megaphone was helmed by Eshwar Karthik. Made as an emotional thriller, ‘Penguin’ fared well on Amazon Prime with its unique content.
Story:
Rhythm (Keerthy) loses her son six years ago and divorces her first husband (Linga). She remarries another man (Ranganath) and is carrying a child. She lives with the memories of her lost son at a lake and one day suddenly finds him. But he behaves weirdly and the rest of the story is about his mysterious disappearance and his strange behaviour.
Making:
Music and Cinematography play key roles in these kind of atmospheric thrillers and they are up to the mark in this movie. Screenplay is a bit dull as it loses steam in the second half though first half moves grippingly. There is no logic in the movie and except the acting prowess of Keerthy Suresh, there are no major highlights.
Business:
‘Penguin’ is strictly a one-time watch and as per sources, Amazon grabbed it for Rs. 7.5 crores and the rights for all languages fetched an additional Rs. 6 crores. So the total business went for Rs. 13.5 crores and both makers and OTT are said to have profited handsomely.
