AP High Court allows videography of Panchayat Poll result counting

The Andhra Pradesh High Court has ordered that videography of Gram Panchayat poll result counting may be allowed if a voter makes such a request.

The AP High Court has given a crucial verdict saying that the poll result counting may be video graphed as per voter demand. However, the High Court made it clear that video graphing may be done only at the behest of the State Election Commission, as per their guidelines and informed that the responsibility to conduct free and fair elections in a transparent manner lies solely with the State Election Commissioner. The development comes in the wake of an urgent petition filed in the High Court by Nancharayya from Krishna district who sought the Election Commission to direct the district authorities to implement the orders passed by the court on February 13.

Court orders not implemented

Nancharayya who hails from Krishna district approached the High Court with an urgent petition stating that orders issued on February 13, which allow video graphing of Gram Panchayat poll result counting aren’t being followed. Having heard the arguments in the case the High Court judges gave the verdict. The High Court ordered SEC to allow video graphing of poll result counting even if a single voter puts forward such a request.
