AP: Tension among teachers over delimitation

Teachers are a worried lot as the exercise to take up delimitation of districts has intensified. They are worried about the difficulties they need to face.

As the state government intensified its efforts to form new districts, there is unrest among the teaching community. There is a debate as to what extent the move would affect teachers especially those who would be transferred post the formation of new districts?

In case of a fresh transfer, if a posting is made to a new district what is the solution to get back? If there are doubts regarding cadre strength in the new district how will it be addressed in a district where the strength is low? What will be the position of spouses working in different districts? Will these issues be addressed effectively? These are the fears popping up among teachers.

Will they guarantee the same district of placement as followed during the delimitation of districts in Telangana in the past?

Will the government guarantee that the transfers taking place in the state before the delimitation of the districts will not lead to the situation where the teachers would have to go to distant places with low points?

There is a demand from the teacher’s associations that the government should give clear assurance before the formation of new districts. Similarly, junior teachers also have questioned whether they would get any relief.

What did Telangana do?

The delimitation of districts was taken up in Telangana also. There is a total of 31 districts. Transfers of teachers were held before and after the delimitation of these districts. The process which was followed by Telangana has now turned crucial for the AP government as it proceeds ahead for the delimitation of districts. In Telangana, the government considered undivided districts as a unit for the transfer of teachers.
