Frauds related to dating apps are on the rise in recent times. Even though police have cautioned people regarding their ill effects, these apps are thriving by targeting the weakness of the youth. They try to convince the youth that they are not alone… they try to show that they are with them and seduce the youth with nude pictures and videos. If the youth even by mistake believe these fraudsters then they are doomed.
You will be sent a link via social media, a message that you can chat with us if you are alone. If you believe it and click, it will start entertaining you with photos, words and videos of beautiful girls. Those people wait to win your trust and then ask you to send your personal videos and photos. In addition, they ask for nude video calls and also record them and then slowly their true nature is revealed.
Slowly they threaten you and start demanding large sums starting with small amounts. They make you depressed by stating that they would send your videos and photos to your family members and on social media if they complain to the police or change their phone numbers. Their ultimate goal is money, which will last as long as you give. They would expose and defame if they suspect you are going against them.
What makes them fall to such things?
The use of social media has increased in recent times. Young people in particular are attracted to them. They spend most of the day chatting and making friends. Even parents do not notice them due to their busy lives. Parental negligence in particular seems to be the main reason. In addition, today’s generation of children are increasingly using smartphones. Parental supervision is very much needed as to what links are being opened by them.
Such cybercrime cases are not new. Many cases are already being registered. The police are conducting special campaigns, telling the youth in the form of videos that are understandable. However, young people fall into the trap of miscreants and eventually lose their dignity. Some are even taking their lives.
Difficult to catch cybercriminals
It is becoming difficult for the police to crack down on such cases as fraudsters use technology. They are making online calls to the victims through social media like WhatsApp. Catching criminals has become a challenge due to the unavailability of the SIM. The only solution is to be vigilant. It is advisable to address such issues with the parents or the police. Avoid sending photos, videos or making obscene video calls to strangers. Only then one can stop such problems. The anti-social acts would lead to misery anytime. You will have to pay a huge price if you trust such strangers.
