The Union Health Ministry on Tuesday in a presser announced that the vaccine against Covid19 would be administered pan India from January 13th. “Covid-19 vaccine to be rolled out within 10 days from the date of approval,” Rajesh Bhushan, the Secretary in Health Ministry said. It is known that the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) had approved both Covaxin (Serum Institute of India -Pune and Bharat Biotech) and Covishield (Oxford-AstraZeneca’s) for emergency use in tackling the Coronavirus crisis. India is second in the number of Covid cases after the United States, and the news comes as a major relief for all Indian citizens.
Meanwhile, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan assured to initially provide the vaccine for free to one crore healthcare workers and two crore frontline warriors. Recently, the Indian government had successfully tested a Covid19 vaccine dry run to understand the complexities related to logistics in advance, such that the process of mass vaccination can be undertaken at the earliest.
