Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar, the AP State Election Commissioner expressed satisfaction over the preparedness of district administration for the conduct of Gram Panchayat polls. It is known that the SEC had toured all 13 districts and reviewed the situation on the ground. The SEC lauded the District Collectors and Superintendents of Police for their efforts in ensuring transparent and free conduct of elections. Speaking about the Pandemic situation, the SEC said that all efforts are being taken to ensure that all safety protocols are followed and that all Covid guidelines are set in place.
However, SEC Nimmagadda in his press note also mentioned that in the districts of Chittoor and Guntur, reports by Collectors indicated an unusually high trend in unanimous elections, quite contrary to the past. Hence, the SEC has instructed the Collectors of Chittoor and Guntur not to declare unanimous results and that they are put on hold until further notice. Also, detailed reports have been sought from the Collectors by the SEC for further investigation.
