England in driver’s seat as Joe Root slams double century in his 100th Test!

On Day 2 of the 1st Test, England having scored 555/8 has consolidated its position with Joe Root having slammed a double ton.

England continued its dominance at the Chepauk stadium (MA Chidambaram Stadium) adding misery to the Indian side, having strengthened itself scoring 555 runs, losing eight wickets from 180 overs. The visiting side began their innings from an overnight score of 263/3 took a strong lead by the end of the day on Saturday, in their first innings. Skipper Joe Root and Ben Stokes tested the patience of the Indian bowlers having slammed 218 runs (377) and 82  runs (118) respectively. Both of them scored 355/3 in the first session of the day’s play without losing a wicket. However, Shahbaz Nadeem having scalped the wicket of Ben Stokes ended their 124-run partnership.

England captain Joe Root has continued his aggressive performance by slamming a double ton in the ongoing Test. (Joe Root: 218 runs, 377 balls, 19 fours, 2 sixes, SR – 57.82).

On Day 2 Stumps, Jos Buttler (30) and Jack Leach (6) are at the crease. For the visitors, Dominic Sibley and Ben Stokes too helped pile up 87 and 82 runs respectively. On the other hand, for India, Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravichandran Ashwin and Shahbaz Nadeem scalped two wickets each.
