The Andhra Pradesh government on Friday served notices to IPS officer AB Venkateswara Rao, who had served as the intelligence chief when Nara Chandrababu Naidu was the CM. There have been allegations against the IPS officer regarding discrepancies in the purchase of security equipment as part of the modernization of police forces.
It is being said that the government treasury had faced losses worth Rs 10 lakhs due to the decisions taken by then intelligence chief AB Venkateswara Rao in purchasing the equipment and that he even failed to protect confidential information pertaining to the department. In this regard, Nilam Sawhney, the Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh has sent notices to AB Venkateswara Rao asking him for a written explanation within 15 days, else appear in person before the competent authority for further action to be taken in accordance under Rule 8 of the All India Services Rules 1969.
