Youth enter politics to do something good to the society. However, a few of them end their lives unable to come to terms with the unfavourable situations that arise in politics. A painful incident happened in Madugula mandal of Rangareddy district. A 27-year-old young sarpanch aspiring to develop his village took loans to begin development works. He hoped to repay the loans taken, once the incentive funds of Rs 25 lakhs would be sanctioned. However, bills were not sanctioned either the funds and the huge financial burden drove the young sarpanch to take the extreme step.
Kashamguda in Madugula mandal of Rangareddy district was formed as a Gram Panchayat in 2019. The villagers elected Sheik Azharuddin (27) as their sarpanch unanimously without any election. The government had announced Rs 15 lakhs as an incentive. Believing that he would receive the incentive, Azharuddin took loans and began all development works related to dumping yards, nursery, crematorium, mosque etc…
Azharuddin who used to be a labourer lost his livelihood after he became the sarpanch. With no daily income, financial burden led to family issues and finally, the sarpanch committed suicide by consuming pesticide. Azharuddin is survived by his wife, two children, parents Fatima and Rasool. A police investigation is underway.
The villagers were shocked to learn about the suicide of Azharuddin. We have seen many sarpanches who have swallowed village funds, but there are very few like Azharuddin who work selflessly towards a better society.
