Bharat Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait has called for a Chakka Jam on Saturday. As part of the protests, all major and state highways would be blocked from 12 noon to 3 pm pan India, except for Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. It is known that the farmer unions have been protesting since November 2020, against the contentious farm laws introduced by the Centre and have been demanding that they be withdrawn. Meanwhile, the farmers made it clear that their protests would not hinder any kind of emergency services and that it would be completely peaceful.
On the other hand, security has been beefed up in Delhi with a high alert being declared. Police have set up barricades and water cannons have been deployed. Along the Tikri Border, nails have been erected and barbed wire set up with several layers of hurdles and concrete blocks set up. The Delhi Police are making sure that no untoward incidents similar to that on January 26th take place.
