The TRS, AIMIM and the BJP contested for the GHMC Mayor and Deputy Mayor posts, while the Congress boycotted the proceedings. For the TRS Gadwal Vijayalakshmi and Mote Sri Latha were in the fray for the posts of GHMC Mayor and Deputy Mayor. With the TRS having confirmed their candidates, Corporator PJR Vijaya Reddy who was expecting the mayoral post left the hall. Meanwhile, 149 Corporators were sworn-in. On the other hand, Radha Dheeraj Reddy contested on behalf of the BJP. Though there were speculations of AIMIM announcing their candidate, they didn’t name anyone.
Including Corporators and Ex-officio members, there are a total of 193 members within the GHMC limits. Among them are 149 Corporators and 44 Ex-Officio members. For the Mayoral elections around 97 members need to be in attendance. Now, the TRS has a strength of 88 members who include 56 Corporators and 32 Ex-officio members, while the BJP has only a strength of 49 members. In the case of AIMIM, there are a total of 54 members. With the AIMIM pledging their support for the ruling TRS, Gadwal Vijayalakshmi and Mote Sri Latha were elected as the GHMC Mayor and Deputy Mayor respectively.
