If there is one star who swam against the ‘Regular’ wave on Indian cinema even by putting his career at stake, he is none other than Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan. He is the synonym for acting and a bastion for experimental cinema in the Indian film industry. Kamal’s efforts were recognized nationally and globally which made him the recipient of honours like Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. In a career spanning over 60 years, Kamal Haasan has achieved everything that no other actor in the nation can ever dream of.
Kamal was born on November 7th of 1954 and he debuted into films as a child actor in 1960 with Kalathur Kannamma. He won the President’s Medal for his performance in the first film itself. Kamal rose to prominence with K Balachander’s movies like Apoorva Raagangal and Maro Charitra. His association with K Viswanath produced films like Saagara Sangamam, Swathi Muthyam and Subha Sankalpam.
Kamal Haasan has an inherent director in him which made him helm megaphone for films like Hey Ram, Virumaandi and Vishwaroopam. State Govt of Tamil Nadu honoured him with prestigious Kalaimamani award. He is acting in two films currently alongside being a TV host at 66.
