The Golden era of Tollywood had witnessed actresses like Savithri, Bhanumathi and Vijaya Nirmala pick up the megaphone and prove their mettle as directors. After them, this trend faded for a while. Tamil actresses such as Suhasini and Revathi directed a few films. Tollywood only has Jeevitha’s name to fill in this list for now. Yesteryear actress Sripriya also got into direction with ‘Drishyam’ in 2014. But now there is exciting news for movie fans that some of their favourite actresses are gearing to take up the mantle of direction.
Kangana Ranaut is a talented Bollywood actress who is known both for her acting skills and stirring controversies. She won national award twice for her performances. Kangana directed a minor portion of her previous outing ‘Manikarnika’ as director Krish left the project midway due to his creative differences with her. She is again wearing the director’s shoes for her upcoming film called ‘Aparajitha Ayodhya’. This is based on the Supreme Court’s recent judgment on Ram Mandir and its story is penned by Rajamouli’s father Vijayendra Prasad. She is also producing the film.
The most wanted heroine in South film industry now is none other than Samantha Akkineni. She is currently concentrating on lady-oriented scripts and the list of her upcoming movies is really long. Grapevine is she has readied a script during lockdown time and is gearing herself to direct it shortly. It will be made on her husband’s home banner ‘Annapurna Productions’.
Kalyani who debuted in Tollywood with Rajasekhar’s ‘Seshu’ went on to star in movies like ‘Dongodu’, ‘Kabaddi Kabaddi’, ‘Avunu…Valliddaru Ishtapaddaru’ and ‘Pedababu’.
