No matter how alert the police department is, some unfortunate incidents which are destined to happen cannot be prevented. One such incident took place in Hyderabad’s Old City area. A 16-year-old minor girl being married to a 57-year-old elderly man in the city came to light after three days. On learning about the incident, police immediately registered a case against the man and an investigation is on. As per latest reports, seven people have been taken into custody in connection with the incident. Those accused were also paraded in front of the media.

On delving into the details revealed by the police following the investigation, it is known that Abdul Latif a native of Kerala had married the girl. The man had been residing in Hyderabad from some time, and via agents agreed to marry Mohammed Ghousuddin’s daughter, hailing from Old City area. Latif lured the girl’s father and stepmother by assuring them a sum of Rs 1.5 lakhs and took care of all the arrangements. The incident which took place on the 27th of December at Bandlaguda came to light recently. However, a police investigation is on for more details.
Not just this incident, in the past too several marriages have taken place in the Old City area. Apart from minor girl’s being trapped into wedlock, many young women from the area are also cheated in the name of marriage by men from Dubai and the Gulf countries. Sadly, though police have launched a special drive to curb the issue, some of the parents in the area are falling prey to money-traps. So, to put a check to these kinds of incidents, police are requesting girls to immediately lodge a complaint, so that they can be provided protection and parents can be counselled on the issue.
