Joe Biden, 78, has been sworn in as the 46th President of the United States. Kamala Harris, 56, of Indian descent, has been sworn in as the first woman Vice President in American history. Joe Biden said that everyone should move forward together and assured that he will be there for everyone. Also, the inaugural ceremony of the President at the US Capitol took place amid unprecedented security in American history.
“Here we stand days after a riotous mob thought they could silence the will of the people. It will not happen, not today, not tomorrow, not ever – not ever. Defend the truth and defeat the lies. Hear me out as we move forward,” Biden said.
Trump’s farewell
The 45th President of the United States Trump left the White House on the last day of his term. He moved to his home state of Florida with spouse Melania. Though Trump’s decision against attending the swearing-in ceremony of the 46th US President left Americans surprised, this has been one among the many surprising decisions Trump made. On the other hand, Trump and his wife, his second wife’s daughter, boarded the official Air Force One flight to Maryland for the final time. From there they headed to their Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida’s Palm Beach. A total of 73 people, including former White House chief of staff Steve Bannon was pardoned and the sentences of 70 others were reduced by Donald Trump.
“We love the American people, and again it has been something very special. And I just want to say goodbye, but hopefully, it’s not a long-term goodbye. We’ll see each other again. This week, we inaugurate a new administration and pray for its success in keeping America safe and prosperous. I did not seek the easiest course… By far, it was actually the most difficult. I did not seek the path that would get the least criticism. I took on the tough battles, the hardest fights, the most difficult choices because that’s what you elected me to do. Your needs were my first and last unyielding focus,” Trump said in his farewell address to the nation.
Daughter’s engagement
On the day when Trump left the White House, his youngest daughter Tiffany Trump got engaged to Michael Boulos, a London-based businessman who hails from Lebanon. Tiffany, who has been in love with Boulos for some time, felt emotional during the ceremony. The 27-yr old is the daughter of Trump’s second wife Marla Maples, has graduated in law.
Key decisions
It is learnt that the new President Biden would be taking several key decisions, with the construction of the Mexico border wall expected to end. There is also a campaign that America will join the World Health Organization. In addition, Biden is also expected to end Trump’s travel ban imposed on some Islamic countries. Many other decisions such as the US re-joining the Paris Agreement, making masks mandatory for Covid control, waiver of student interest and ease of sanctions on Librarians will also be taken.
