Telangana CM KCR announced that the State Assembly is going to pass a resolution seeking Bharata Ratna to former PM PV Narasimha Rao. In a press note released by the CMO on Friday, KCR lauded PV’s services to the nation and expressed his will to celebrate the former PM’s centenary celebrations on a grand scale.
“We will rename Necklace Road as PV Gnana Marg and a memorial museum will be set up in his remembrance. Narasimha Rao garu stood as the beacon of Telangana’s pride and it is our duty to make the world know about him. Time has come to laud the reforms which PV Garu introduced and there is every need to make the future generations remember. We have decided to invite PM Modi and President Ramnath Kovid for the closing ceremony of PV’s centenary celebrations along with Chief Ministers from every state. We are also planning to invite the former presidents of USA along with other religious leaders. A statue of him will be unveiled at Telangana Bhavan in Delhi,” said KCR.
PV’s birthplace into a tourist centre
PV’s birthplace Laknepalli and Vangara where he grew would be developed as tourist centres and places of significance with memorials. KCR’s government has also floated proposals to request the Centre to name Central University after PV.
Congress in defense mode
Nobody can forget the ill treatment meted out to PV after his death and the Congress high command’s denial for performing his last rites in Delhi. The recent developments and KCR’s sudden liking for the former PM is creating tremors in Indian National Congress. The party went into self-defence mode and is scratching its head over the past mistakes.
Analysts say that the old guard in Congress party which backed PV will extend their tacit support to TRS. Through the centenary celebrations, KCR will try to gather the support of Brahmin community in Telangana which was neglected by all the previous governments. We have to wait and see whether KCR’s strategy would yield him the desired result or not.
