While Indian American Kamala Harris creates history being the first woman to become the Vice President of America, nineteen others have been inducted into POTUS elect Biden’s team. Among them 13 are women. Neera Tandon has been appointed Director of the White House Office of Management and Budget, while Dr Vivek Murthy of Karnataka has been nominated as a US Surgeon General. Vanitha Gupta was appointed Associate Attorney General of the Department of Justice, while Biden’s wife Jill Biden will be the Policy Director, Garima Varma to be the Technical Director and Sabrina Singh as Media Secretary. Aisha Shah from Kashmir has been appointed as the Partnership Manager at the White House Digital Strategy Office. Sameera Fazil has been appointed Deputy Director of the National Economic Council (NEC). Bharath Rammurthy will be the Deputy Director of the same Council. Vinay Reddy, a Hyderabad-based director, has been appointed as the speechwriter, while Gautam Raghavan and Vedant Patel have been given key responsibilities. The US National Security Council will also include three Indo-Americans with Tarun Chabra, Sumona Guha and Shanti Kalathil holding key positions.
Vinay Reddy’s family hails from Hyderabad and settled in New York. Having completed his education at Ohio University, graduated in law from the University of Miami. He also played a key role during Obama’s time as president. Vinay Reddy has been working with Biden since he was vice president. Vinay, who previously worked as a Biden campaign staff, will now take over as the Writers’ Team Head. Vinay Reddy previously served as a speechwriter for Senator Brown and as a senior speechwriter for the United States Environmental Protection Agency.
Fazil, who has been appointed Deputy Director of the US NEC, is from Kashmir. Her parents, Yusuf and Rafiqa, settled in New York. Studied higher education at Harvard University, Yale Law School and has worked as a professor at Yale Law Institute in the fields of housing, small business, microfinance, etc. She is known as a follower of Barack Obama. Previously she served as Director of Economic Development at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, NEC Senior Policy Advisor.
Vivek Murthy, who has been appointed the US Surgeon General hails from a medical family from Karnataka’s Mandya district. He is the grandson of HT Narayan Shetty, a prominent politician in Karnataka. Vivek Murthy Father’s name is Dr Vivek H Murthy. After completing his education at the Mysore Medical College, Vivek H Murthy moved to London. Vivek Murthy was born in London. Later their family settled in America. Vivek Murthy studied at Harvard University and is close to Obama and has served as American Surgeon General during Obama’s tenure.
Bharat Rammurthy… He is also said to be of Bangalore origin. Indian-American Bharat Ramamurthy has been elected Deputy Director of the US National Economic Council (SEC). Rammurthy has also been a member of the Congressional Oversight Commission on CARES (CARS) Act in the past. In the previous presidential election, he served as financial adviser to Senate Elizabeth Warren and as a designer of banking policies.
