Nizamabad Turmeric Farmers protest on National Highway

The Nizamabad- Karimnagar district turmeric farmers staged Rasta Roko on the national highway.

Nizamabad farmers have hit the road once again. Turmeric crop farmers from Nizamabad-Karimnagar districts gathered on the Nagpur National Highway and took up Rasta roko. Farmers demand setting up a Turmeric board and have sought clarity on the minimum support price issue. Not only that. Turmeric farmers are asking the government to consider an additional four more demands. They have given the time to the government till the 20th of January to fulfil their demands. The farmers said that if the government does not respond by then, they would announce an action plan on the farmers’ agitation.

Police at National Highway 44 in Nagpur on Friday resorted to lathi-charge and fired in the air to disperse hundreds of protesters. Former MLC Professor Nageswara Rao supported the farmers’ agitation. He also participated in the dharna along with the farmers. Farmers are demanding that the minimum support price for the Turmeric crop be announced at Rs 15,000. The farmers alleged that Dharmapuri Arvind had ignored the promise given to them during the election.
