“Not in words, show us in deeds KCR Sir!” – Hyderabadis

The Telangana government has proudly announced that it will make Hyderabad a world-class city. The heavy rains have exposed the truth behind the statements of the government.

Chandrababu Naidu KCR

Minister KTR in the recent Assembly sessions credited the TRS government for playing a major role in making Hyderabad a world class city, positioning it better than other major cities. He added that the earlier governments failed to take decisions in projecting Hyderabad as a world-class city, and that, only his government had the commitment to develop the City of Nizams. However, even before 24 hours could pass, all have understood the flaws in his statement.

Terrible Conditions

Heavy rains influenced by severe cyclone pounded Hyderabad, turned roads into water bodies. With the IMD forecasting heavy rains for the next two days, people are worried about the situation. Many colonies were submerged due to the heavy downpour, while power outage added to people’s woes. With water entering into substations, officials have asked people not to touch electric poles

What measures is the government taking?

The Department of Meteorology had warned of severe cyclones a few days ago. There is a criticism that the Telangana government had ignored the warnings and failed to take action. More than nine persons were killed because they were not shifted from dilapidated houses. Several low-lying areas like Osmangunj, Chandrayangutta were badly affected and even people were not evacuated to safe places. More than 1500 places were inundated due to the government’s failure in clearing the silt from sewers and not taking action on illegal constructions.

Is this a world-class city?

Prominent engineer Mokshagundam Vishweshwaraya designed the drainage system for Hyderabad in the year 1905. It is noteworthy that the old drainage system is still in use for almost 116 years and that it has been designed to cater to a population of ten lakh people. People are saying it is atrocious to continue the same old system despite the population in the city having surpassed over a crore.

People are criticising that the government which aspires to make Hyderabad a world-class city has failed to implement an effective drainage system. The city got submerged with just 30 cm rain. “Is this a world-class city Sir?” is a popular question posed by Netizens in social media who are trolling the government mercilessly.

Learn from Chandrababu Naidu

It is learnt that the Telangana government held review meetings with the GHMC and Disaster management officials, only to shirk off the responsibility. The government has a responsibility to help those affected by floods, but none of the public representatives have been involved in relief works. It is sad that no one has come forward to provide food to the people affected by the floods. Netizens are commenting on social media to learn from Chandrababu Naidu in this regard.

People are requesting the TRS government to follow the precautions taken by the then Chief Minister Naidu when the flood hit Hyderabad in 2000. Apart from shifting people to safe areas, they were provided with all the amenities. They are recalling how Naidu, apart from taking up reviews, visited the flood affected areas. They are requesting to learn from the hard work of Naidu, who helped Vizag recover after Hudhud cyclone hit the port city.

People are suggesting the Telangana government to show the development in deeds at least now instead of just making statements.
