‘Premam’ which was released five years ago went on to become an industry hit in Mollywood. It was remade in Telugu by Chandu Mondeti with Naga Chaitanya and Shruti Hassan. ‘Premam’ became a decent hit even in Telugu. The director of the original, Alphonse Putharen hasn’t made a film since then. After a hiatus of five years, he is ready to direct ‘Paattu,’ which means song in Telugu.
Alphonse takes huge gaps between making films and his previous track record proves the fact. He made his debut film ‘Neram’ in 2013 which was released in Malayalam and Tamil. After a gap of two years, he directed ‘Premam’ in 2015 which marked the debut of Sai Pallavi and Anupama Parameswaran. Sai Pallavi’s ‘Malar’ character was much loved, making her win fans across South India.
Alphonse has roped in Fahaad Faasil to play the lead character in ‘Paattu’ which will be produced by UGC Entertainments. Fahaad is surfing the success tide and is in great form lately. Alphonse is even composing music for ‘Paattu’ and the songs are being recorded currently. He revealed recently that his decision to compose music by himself was the reason behind the five-year gap.
The team is yet to reveal details of the remaining cast and crew since auditions are going on. Earlier, Alphonse expressed his anguish in the form of a letter written to the State Govt. of Kerala for not considering ‘Premam’ for awards in 2015. Instead, ‘Charlie’ bagged eight awards that year. Let’s wish Alphonse bags a hit and a truck load of awards too.
