They had alleged that he provoked the Telugu Desam activists to destroy the idol of Lord Ram. The government removed him from the post of hereditary trustee of the temple. At the same time, the Endowments Minister cursed by naming the caste. Pusapati Ashok Gajapati Raju did not get angry, instead expressed his concern and his devotion to Lord Ram.

The idol of Lord Ram was destroyed by thugs. The government allocated money from the treasury and washed off its hands. But it was Ashok Gajapati Raju who donated a sum of Rs 1,01,116 for buying a new idol. To this extent, he sent a cheque in his personal capacity by post to the temple administrator. Irrespective of the accusations levelled against him, there has been appreciation for Ashok’s unending devotion.
