Casting couch is a shady practice in every sector that is more pronounced in the film industry. Many actresses spoke about it in public and nothing seems to have changed at all. Even campaigns like ‘#MeToo’ provided a platform for several actresses worldwide to come out from the dark and explain their plight to the world. As every positive endeavour has a negative aspect to it, some actresses tried to cash on #MeToo movement by making baseless allegations. These publicity stunts have made a mockery of the campaign and people have stopped believing genuine stories too.
Recently, Run Raja Run fame Seerat Kapoor expressed her frank opinion on casting couch issue. She said that this issue is not only limited to the film industry but also prevalent in other sectors. “Instead of just complaining about the incident, women should enlighten others on how they avoided situations and what they have learnt from it. By revealing the truth, they will save vulnerable women from walking the dangerous path,” said Seerat Kapoor.
Even though many actresses fought on ‘casting couch’, nothing has changed. Firebrand actress Sri Reddy shifted to Chennai as she was practically left out by the industry.
