In what could be termed a nightmare for every parent, around 12 children have been given hand sanitiser instead of the polio vaccine drops in Maharashtra’s Yavatmal district on Sunday. The incident took place around 700 kms from the state capital of Mumbai. According to an official, all the kids aged below 5-yrs were admitted to the nearest government hospital after they complained of vomiting and uneasiness. The children have been placed under observation are now in a stable condition.
The shocking incident happened at a primary healthcare centre in Yavatmal district during the National Pulse Polio vaccination drive held for children aged between 1 to 5-years. Shrikrishna Panchal, the CEO of the Yavatmal Zilla Parishad confirmed about the incident. It is being reported that strict action would be taken against the health care personnel for gross negligence.
