The Supreme Court on Friday issued notices to the American microblogging and social networking service, Twitter for its screening mechanism against ‘Anti-India, Seditious’ tweets. Instead of banning those accounts making inflammatory tweets, the US firm said that it had removed only certain tweets that violated their rules but couldn’t take action against activists and media personalities citing democracy. Earlier, the Centre asked Twitter to comply as Indian laws else face legal action. Reacting on the issue, the Supreme Court on Friday directed Twitter to devise a way such that tweets containing inflammatory or inciting content may be removed.
