A string of banners that appeared over Kanaka Durga Flyover in Vijayawada became the talk of the state now. The words written on them are showing the ‘scot-free’ attitude of the YSRCP leaders and their utter disregard to the ‘Rule of law’ as said by the high court earlier. “We don’t agree if you want to control the democratically elected Government with constitutional institutions”, say these banners erected in the name of YSRTUC leader Maadu Sivarama Krishna and flashing the photographs of YS Jagan and MLA Jogi Ramesh.
These banners expose the dictatorial attitude of ruling party members which is causing worry to people. The YSRCP leaders are framing people, media and opposition leaders who question their irregularities with false cases. This has become a modus operandi for the YSRCP leaders who do not want to be questioned by people who have elected them. When Jagan’s government tried to dishonor the agreements that were signed between the previous government and farmers, the high court passed decrees that did not go well with the ruling party. In an unprecedented move, the YSRCP mounted a vitriolic attack on the judiciary. Its leaders and social media army targeted judges directly without fear of law. Through these banners, it is clearly understandable that they are targeting the courts.
Judiciary is at the heart of the democracy, safeguarding the rights of the common man. Ruling Governments cannot overpower it in the name of majority or seats won in elections. Constitutional institutions act as guardians who make elected Governments accountable to the people. YSRCP government must remember that the courts always favour the righteous and give judgments based on evidences, and not on whims and fancies.
This is the first time in the history of India that a ruling party has resorted to threatening the judiciary. If they think that they can control these institutions by intimidating them, God save them and the people.
