TikTok’s parent company dragging the Trump administration to the US federal court has triggered a widespread debate. It may be mentioned here that the video streaming app was first banned in India by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government along with 59 other Chinese mobile applications.
However, TikTok India did not consider going to courts in over the ban like it did in the USA. Many suggest that the Modi continues to remain popular in his second term and going strong in terms of image perception in the country. Taking on Modi at this point of time might not be a good idea for TikTok.
The US President had time and again accused China of spreading the Coronaviraus and has issued an executive order banning TikTok’s operations in the USA citing national security. Left with no other option, ByteDance has entered into talks to sell its operations to a US based company. The prime runners in the deal include Microsoft, Twitter and an unnamed American company.
In its petition before the US court, ByteDance alleged that the executive order was politically motivated. Their repeated efforts for reconciliation met with no success, forcing them to knock the doors of the court, the company surmised.
What will TikTok do next in India is the hot topic among many. Millions of TikTok users are wishing for the app to come back soon, but in the hands of Indian owners.
