Gannavaram constituency has lately become a battleground to three groups in the ruling YSRCP party to showcase their authority. Vallabhaneni Vamsi who won the 2019 elections from TDP and abandoned ship later and Yarlagadda Venkat Rao who contested from YSRCP and lost by 800 votes are in no mood to work together. The third group is being led by Dutta Ramachandra Rao, who contested on YSRCP ticket and lost to Vamsi in 2014.
As these three leaders are in a race to assert their leadership in the constituency, YSRCP leadership is requesting them to work hand-in-hand to strengthen the party. Dutta and Yarlagadda are sure that if Vamsi resigns and contests in by-election, it will be a death knell for their future if he becomes an MLA. This is the primary concern which is making the duo blow hot on Vamsi.
Grapevine was abuzz that Vamsi will resign from his MLA post and contest in by-elections. It later turned out to be a baseless rumor. As COVID-19 is devastating the state, it is impracticable to conduct elections at this moment. If recent ground level reports are to be believed, YSRCP is in no position to win over TDP in Gannavaram constituency. The clashes between the leaders of YSRCP is said to benefit TDP. During a recent party meeting, Dutta is said to have gone to the extent of saying that he would be the candidate if at all there would be a by-election.
