Vijayashanti, who had been a former star campaigner for the Congress has pledged her alliance to the BJP on Monday. The Osey Ramulamma star also agreed to accept any responsibility that would be assigned by the party to her. Arun Singh, a Rajya Sabha MP & National General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party welcomed the actor turned politician in a ceremony held at New Delhi on Monday. However, it has to be seen how the Saffron Party would utilize the star image of Vijayashanti and what significant post will be offered to her. Will she be given a state level or national level post?
Having enjoyed a successful film career down South, Vijayashanti shifted her focus to politics and had joined the BJP on 26th January 1998, only to bid adieu to the party in 2005 due to various reasons. Later she founded her own political party, Talli Telangana, in January 2009, only to be merged into Telangana Rashtra Samithi. However, she later joined the Congress in February 2014, having claimed that KCR sidelined her from the party, on the same day when the Congress had announced the formation of Telangana state. Recently, her remarks that some Congress leaders were joining hands with TRS supremo KCR turned sensational and even stayed away from Congress party activities. However, this had triggered speculations of her joining the BJP.
Finally, bringing the curtain down on speculations, Vijayashanti joined the Lotus Party on Monday in the presence of Arun Singh, a Rajya Sabha MP & National General Secretary of the BJP. However, there has been no clarity regarding the post. Will she be inducted into the Telangana BJP State Committee? Will she be given a national level post? Or will she be given any other responsibility? It is learnt that the BJP high command is yet to make a decision.
On the other hand, Vijayashanti made it clear that she is ready to take any responsibility accorded to her, adding that she would definitely work towards strengthening the party in Telangana. While BJP President Jagat Prakash Nadda too met Vijayashanti and welcomed her into the party by felicitating her with the party stole. She even met senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu, the Vice President of India in her Delhi tour and was accompanied by MoS for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy, BJP State President Bandi Sanjay, Dr K Laxman the National President for Bharatiya Janata Party’s OBC Morcha and former MP Vivek.
