The Greater Hyderabad elections are yielding interesting results. While, the TDP, BJP and MIM wave continues, the Congress which was once a strong force in the Greater as the single largest party, is today fighting for its very existence. In the Dubbaka polls, the Congress which was in the third position has now slipped further to the fourth position in the GHMC elections. On an optimistic note, Congress\u2019 Sirisha Reddy won from AS Rao Nagar, while another Congress leader from Uppal Division M Rajitha emerged victorious, providing a sense of reprieve for Congress leaders. In addition, Congress is also in the lead in another two divisions.<\/p>\n
Always on the backfoot<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n It is indeed discouraging for the Congress, which is a national party to be consistently placed in the fourth position. Speculations are also on in political circles about the worst performance of the Grand Old Party. The results would definitely discourage party leaders and is also a major setback for the Congress which considers itself an alternative to the ruling TRS in Telangana. The unusual performance of the BJP in these elections, proves that it is not the Congress but the BJP which is an alternative to the TRS.<\/p>\n Who\u2019s responsible for Congress\u2019 collapse?<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n An intense debate is on among Congress internal political circles for the worst defeat in the Greater elections. However, it is clear that the Congress brought the crisis upon itself. When the BJP was busy fielding its national leaders for campaigning in the Greater elections, the Congress was not even seen campaigning. A strong leadership crisis in the Congress, has also led to lapses in coordination among party leaders. Even group politics within the Congress is another key factor plaguing it. Even the TDP which contested in 106 seats is not to be seen anywhere. In 2016, if the Congress won two seats, we have to await the final results to see how many divisions it will win this time.
