The AP Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy, after taking charge, had declared that the government would act stringently against the atrocities committed against women. There are allegations that though there were announcements, no actions have been taken. The case of Sugali Preethi from Kurnool district is a clear example. The CBI has not received any letter to take up the case from the government, despite the CM giving an assurance regarding the same to the victim’s parents.<\/p>\n
Sugali Preethi, a 10th class tribal girl from a private school in Kurnool, died in 2017 under suspicious circumstances. Initially, it was reported that the girl had committed suicide, but later it was revealed that the girl was raped and murdered by the school correspondent\u2019s son. Police have registered a case of murder and arrested the accused. The accused were later released on bail. This led to Preethi\u2019s parents to seek justice for their daughter. In the meantime, Jagan who took over as the AP CM promised a CBI inquiry. Preethi\u2019s parents were worried that the accused belonged to the same caste as that of Jagan and questioned how justice would be done to them if Jagan is the CM. Realizing their plight, Janasena Pawan Kalyan himself came to Kurnool and supported Preethi\u2019s family.<\/p>\n
CM Jagan said that the case would be given to CBI and directed the district SP to handover the case. The family members were happy with the decision. However, their happiness did not last long as there was no progress on the inquiry. They went to Delhi to inquire about the issue. They were shocked to learn that the CBI did not receive any such proposal from the state government. They told the parents that they didn\u2019t receive even a letter.
