A day after the trailer release, Mirzapur 2 received backlash from the Twitter \u2018court of law\u2019 (pun intended) by making #BoycottMirzapur2 trend. There are two reasons for this: One is that the lead actor Ali Fazal had tweeted during the CAA protests at Delhi in December in favour of protestors which has irked the right wingers. Another reason is Farhan Akhtar being associated with the series and his name cropping up in nepotism debates that are heating up the social media across the country.<\/p>\n
Ali had quoted lines from his character in Mirzapur and wrote – ‘I had started in compulsion, now I am enjoying it’, in the backdrop of the CAA protests and riots. In another tweet, he wrote – ‘Remember – the next step is not to prove that this was a peaceful movement, but to investigate it and cover up the real intruders who entered this movement from outside and committed violence’.<\/p>\n
Though Ali had deleted these tweets, screenshots of the same are surfacing up now with the caption reading #BoycottMirzapur2.<\/p>\n
While the hate flow is heavy, many fans showed support. It will be interesting to see how the boycott trend affects the show where the number of haters and fans is almost the same. Mirzapur 2 is slated to be released on October 28 on Amazon Prime Video.
