Attacks on Hindu temples in AP have led to a furore. The ruling YSRCP government, which is responsible for stopping the attacks, has shown its indifferent attitude by blaming the leaders of the opposition for the attacks. In this scenario, the AP DGP Damodar Goutam Sawang reacting on the temple vandalism issues has given a statement in his own style.<\/p>\n
Within two days of having given a statement to the press, the AP DGP in his latest interaction with reporters took a total U-turn from what he had said earlier. This has led to a topic of discussion in the state as to what led the police boss to change his remarks. Earlier, the DGP speaking to media said that there was no political interference in the issue, and made interesting comments by saying that treasure hunters, thieves, animals and mentally ill people were to be blamed for the vandalism. He also made it clear that there was no political angle in the vandalism of Hindu temples.<\/p>\n
He even said that the police have reacted swiftly and registered cases in over 44 locations where the vandalism was reported and that the cases have almost been solved. He even fumed at the opposition for having questioned the inefficiency of the police department in curbing the incidents, saying that police shouldn\u2019t be dragged into politics. The DGP also made it clear that an investigation is underway and assured that it would be unbiased as police work irrespective of caste, religion and demographics.<\/p>\n
Now, after the DGP ruled that the attacks on temples were not politically motivated. He stayed calm on Sankranti day (Thursday) and on Kanuma (Friday) he called for a press meet again. Now in what could be termed a U-turn, the DGP in the presser made sensational remarks saying that the attacks on temples were caused by the opposition TDP and some BJP leaders in power backed by the Centre.
