Mythology is an integral part of Indian culture. Even though many comment that \u2018Puranas\u2019 are just imaginative works, majority of us believe in our scriptures to the core. There are evidences which are even standing today to support these events such as \u2018Ramasetu\u2019 and Ravana\u2019s airport in Sri Lanka. Authors like Amish Tripathi and Anand Neelakanthan enticed the tech-savvy present generation with their books which portray Gods and mythological characters as common men.<\/p>\n

Telugu novelist Ranganayakamma created sensation with her book \u2018Ramayana Visha Vriksham\u2019. Writers have to remember that they don\u2019t have the right to change the premise and story according to their wish when they want to touch mythological subjects. Did anyone rewrite the ending of Shakespeare\u2019s \u2018Romeo-Juliet\u2019 since it is a tragedy?<\/p>\n
Amish Tripathy\u2019s \u2018Shiva Trilogy\u2019 brought Lord Shiva\u2019s character close to youngsters. Anand Neelakanthan showed \u2018Ravana\u2019 and \u2018Duryodhana\u2019 as heroes through his vantage point. This was done in the past by the legendary actor NTR in his films like \u2018Daana Veera Soora Karna\u2019 and \u2018Seetarama Kalyanam\u2019 as well. Oscar winning director Martin Scorcese directed \u2018The Last Temptation of Christ\u2019 in the past. It shocked Americans and sources say this film became the reason for the deliberate rejection of Academy awards to his future films. He eventually won the Oscar for \u2018Departed\u2019 many years after.<\/p>\n
Team \u2018Adipurush\u2019 hasn\u2019t said that their film is based on the epic of \u2018Ramayana\u2019, but as the characters are based on it, we can expect that the director is going to portray it in the form of a folklore subject just as Amish Tripathy did with his books. A Malayalam director named Aravindan made a film named \u2018Kanchana Seetha\u2019 in 1978-79. It is based on the episode of \u2018Lava\u2019 and \u2018Kusa\u2019 and Lord Rama\u2019s character was portrayed as a tribal man. Seetha\u2019s character doesn\u2019t appear in this film. Rajya Sabha MP T Subbarami Reddy produced a film named \u2018Bhagavadgita\u2019 in Sanskrit under the direction of GV Iyer. Neena Gupta played \u2018Draupadi\u2019 in this realistic film.<\/p>\n
If director Om Raut films \u2018Adipurush\u2019 in the form of Amish Tripathy\u2019s novels, majority may not like it as these novels are written for a niche section. This literature entertained people who are well-versed in English and doesn\u2019t have any religious sentiments, but a common viewer will reject the film if makers take freedom in portraying the devotional characters. We all know the fate of Mani Ratnam\u2019s \u2018Ravan\u2019. He took the extreme liberty to show metaphorically that Sita had a soft corner for Ravana and audiences rejected \u2018Ravan\u2019 outright. Let\u2019s hope that the team of \u2018Adipurush\u2019 portrays the mythology as it was written without any deviations.<\/p>\n
