The Nizamabad Local Bodies’ MLC constituency by-election held on Friday, from 9 am to 5 pm, concluded in a peaceful atmosphere amid tight security. The candidates V Subhash Reddy from the Congress, KCR\u2019s daughter and former MP Kavitha from the TRS and Yendala Laxminarayana from the BJP were in the fray for the by-election. TRS activists are confident that Kavitha would emerge victorious with a bumper majority.<\/p>\n
Celebrations have already begun<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n The vacancy in the Council arose due to the disqualification of incumbent R Bhupathi Reddy, leading to TRS leaders pushing for Kavitha\u2019s candidature. It may be recalled that Kavitha had lost to D Arvind of the BJP from Nizamabad Lok Sabha. She decided to contest MLC election because it will be an easy victory for her from here. The Nizamabad by-election was getting postponed because of Coronavirus and it was finally held on Friday. Officials said that 99.64% polling was registered. The voters in this election are ZPTCs, MPTCs, Councillors and co-option members. The total number of votes in the corporation are 824 and TRS has 570, BJP has 78, Congress has 152, MIM and independents have 28. The party leaders having made all calculations and are in a celebratory mode claiming that Kavitha garnered one third of the total votes.<\/p>\n 80 percent of votes<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Out of the 824 votes, 570 votes are of TRS and 28 votes of independents and MIM will be in favour of Kavitha. Besides, leaders feel Kavitha would get half of the votes from the Congress and the BJP. Which means she would get votes anywhere between 650 and 700. Though the results would be officially announced on October 12, clarity on the result would come in the first couple of rounds.<\/p>\n 50 polling stations<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n The officials have set up 50 per cent of polling stations across the district in wake of Covid-19. Earlier, only six polling stations were made available, but many more polling stations were opened later to reduce crowding. While the Nizamabad Corporation has the highest votes (67), Chandur town has the lowest (4). The officials arranged webcasting and video shooting at all the polling stations.
