The new sand policy for Andhra Pradesh is ready. A Cabinet sub-committee having studied the various sand policies being implemented in other states has prepared the new policy. In AP, though the sand rates are low, the soaring transportation prices have left consumers frustrated. Based on the distance, 10-tonnes of sand would cost \u20b936,000 in Andhra Pradesh. It is learnt that the new sand policy would reduce the burden on the consumer, at the same time would generate revenue for the state government.<\/p>\n
Should be free, at the same time generate revenue<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n As per the new policy, sand will be given free of cost to villages within 8 km of the sand reaches in a bid to pacify the villagers for the inconvenience caused by the movement of sand trucks and tractors in nearby areas. However, the catch here is that transportation needs to be borne by the consumer. Currently, the sand policy is benefitting transport contractors more than the government. Hence, the government has planned to drop the previous policy and plans to remove dumping yards.<\/p>\n Government to streamline the entire system<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n The AP government considers streamlining the entire system of sand excavation and sales through total tenders to a single entity. Under the new system, sand from reaches would be directly loaded onto the transport vehicle arranged by the customer.
