On Tuesday, there has been clarity on the issue regarding YS Sharmila’s party announcement which had become viral among political circles. The sister of AP CM and YS Jaganmohan Reddy has independently decided to set up a political party in the state of Telangana. As part of the plans, YS Sharmila during her meeting with well-wishers from Nalgonda district revealed about her plans to start a new political party. It has been interesting to see the reaction of Jagan and et al to the announcement of YS Sharmila that her party will not have any links to YSRCP whatsoever. What exactly is Sharmila’s plan? Will her party really have no links with YS Jagan’s Party? Who’s behind YS Sharmila’s party? What is the real strategy behind YS Sharmila stepping into Telangana leaving behind her home state of Andhra Pradesh? Will Sharmila’s party dent the TRS or the BJP? Having completely observed all possibilities, three options are in front of us at the moment.
BJP’s strategy
In Telangana, at the moment there’s no political vacuum as there is no significant opposition party to take on the TRS. However, the BJP has recently made a jet speed appearance and is hopeful of making it big in the next elections. Hence, the Saffron Party is trying its best to target the TRS. For this, efforts are also on to lure potential leaders from the strong community. As the BJP understood that it cannot do the work, as a part of their strategy, have struck an alliance with the YSRCP in AP. May be the BJP wants YS Sharmila to polarize the voters based on late AP CM YSR’s legacy and hence may have backed YS Jagan’s sister to start a new party in Telangana. It is learnt that as part of the strategy, YS Jagan wants his sister to campaign independently without any backing of the YSRCP, as there are differences between the states. It is being speculated that as soon as the BJP made the proposal, YS Jagan and YS Sharmila have begun secretly implementing it right away. In other words, this equation means that both the siblings are busy working with the backing of the BJP in Centre.
In order to split TRS’ votes
Coming to the second equation. It is being said that Telangana CM KCR due to his close relations with CM YS Jagan, has himself laid out a red-carpet welcome to YS Sharmila’s political party. If we take a look at the reality, there is growing resentment among the public against the TRS rule. On the other hand, the BJP has significantly improved its stand with a win in the Dubbaka bypoll and with a shocking performance in the GHMC elections. This has led to a fear in KCR that the BJP might give him a rude shock in the next elections. So, KCR feels that YS Sharmila’s party could help split the votes which would be beneficial to him, considering the close relations he enjoys with YS Jagan.
Prashant Kishore’s strategy?
Let’s consider the final equation. Political analysts state that irrespective of the backing by TRS and BJP, YS Jagan and YS Sharmila are moving forward with their own innovative political strategy. Both of them are planning to mobilize the supporters of YS Rajasekhara Reddy and trying to give a shock to both the TRS and the BJP with their political moves. In his scenario, poll strategist Prashant Kishore arrived in a special flight to Amaravati and had even met AP CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy on January 8th. The duo is said to have discussed YS Sharmila’s plans to set up a party in Telangana. While it is known that the strategist Prashant Kishore is currently busy working for the All-India Trinamool Congress in West Bengal.
