Political temperature is rising in the district with TDP leaders lodging complaints against ministers and YSRCP leaders and intensifying verbal attacks on the opposition.
Srikakulam district, known for political awareness and mass movements, is witnessing an intense political fight between the ruling and opposition parties. While the YSRCP is trying to throw its weight around, TDP is waging a struggle to prove its existence.
Row over minister’s foul talk
The simmering, low-intensity fight between YSRCP and TDP in the district flared up at once with the abuses hurled by Deputy Chief Minister Dharmana Krishna Das at former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu during a programme. Former TDP minister Ch Ayyanna Patrudu countered Krishna Das with the same degree of acerbity.
On the other hand, led by TDP state president Kimidi Kala Venkata Rao, TDP leaders Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, Itchapuram MLA Bendalam Ashok, TDP Srikakulam parliamentary committee president Kuna Ravi Kumar went to Narsannapet police station and lodged a complaint against Krishna Das for his inappropriate comments against the TDP chief.
Apart from this, the TDP leaders have been lodging complaints in all police stations across the district against the minister. The YSRCP cadres too are raising the pitch in their criticism of TDP, generating more political heat in the district.
Seediri adds fuel to fire
At this juncture, the comments made by another minister from the district Seediri Applaraju kicked up another storm. Speaking at a media conference, Appalaraju said, “I will resign for Vizag as executive capital. TDP leaders have guts to contest against me and win? It is Atchannaidu and Kuna Ravi Kumar who make obscene comments.” He also blamed ‘yellow media’ for ‘distorting’ the words of ‘good leader’ Krishna Das portraying them as ‘obscenities’. He also came down heavily against Atchannaidu, Rammohan Naidu and Ravi Kumar.
‘Paid artistes in Amaravati’
Appalaraju described the farmer agitating in Amaravati as ‘paid artistes’ and questioned how they could afford air travel to New Delhi if they were really farmers. These comments have triggered strong protests from Amaravati farmers. TDP leaders are answering Krishna Das’ comments with police complaints. It is to be seen how they will respond to Appalaraju’s remarks.
