‘Anveshanam’ Movie review: A taut thriller

Malayalam thrillers have definitely something going for them. These are providing edge-of-the-seat experience for OTT lovers during the lockdown. One such thriller that is streaming on Amazon Prime is ‘Anveshanam’. It revolves around a mysterious incident that becomes a major cause of worry for both the Police department and doctors. This is a family movie with crime and thriller elements in it.

Plot

Kavitha admits her unconscious son at a hospital. She is accompanied by her husband Aravind and his friends. They inform the doctors that the boy fell from the steps and injured his head. But a nurse notices wounds on his body and informs Police about it. Police enters the scene and start their enquiry. Kavitha, her husband and others go on to say various versions which further raises questions. Police starts investigating whether the boy has been tortured by his family or someone else.

They question Aravind about the wounds on his body to which he responds that he loves him and has got nothing to do with the boy’s wounds. Meanwhile, the boy dies in the hospital and the Police get ready to arrest Kavitha. How did the boy die? What is the mystery behind his death? The rest of the plot comprises of answers to these questions.

Analysis

Although most of ‘Anveshanam’ was shot in a hospital, we hardly feel any boredom. Director successfully builds up tension and suspense factor from the first scene. Along with the characters, the viewers also begin to scratch their hands about the real reason for the boy’s injuries. Jayasurya played ‘Aravind’ with finesse and Shruti Ramachandran’s portrayal of ‘Kavitha’ is realistic. Lal and Vijay Babu have done justice to their roles as doctors while Leena played the character of the nurse well.

Highlights

The sudden transformation of a happy family into a crime infested one is shown in an interesting manner. The director has shown his talent in creating a doubt over the boy’s parents for his wounds. It shows how a small mistake can turn into a fatal one in no time. Overall, it is a taut thriller which entertains the viewers.
