Ram Gopal Varma is a maverick director who changed the pace of Telugu cinema way back in the late 80s. He turned into a ‘paid’ mercenary lately by creating controversies rather than churning out good films. His debut film Siva was an extraordinary blockbuster that sent shock waves to the spine of Indian cinema. RGV’s films have later fallen mainly into crime and horror categories and he lost his Midas touch by early 2000s.
Now he is largely confined to B-grade soft porn movies and senseless biopics that are failing to generate any buzz at the box office. His stint with Sri Reddy showed his cheap behaviour and mainstream Tollywood distanced itself from him. Sushant Singh Rajput’s suicide casted a dark spell on Bollywood regarding its shady ties with drugs. Many media houses presented stories that depicted Bollywood as a place for drug addicts and exploiters.
Recently bigwigs in Hindi film industry approached Delhi High Court and filed defamation cases against Republic TV and Times Now for airing derogatory stories on them. Four associations from Bollywood in collaboration with 34 production houses filed these complaints on Arnab Goswami, Pradeep Bhandari, Rahul Shivshankar and Navika Kumar.
RGV took a dig at the Bollywood biggies on his social media handle. He tweeted, “Reaction of Bollywood is too late and too thanda…All top film people complaining to Delhi high court is amounting to a school kid telling the teacher…Teacher, Teacher, wo Arnab mujhe gaali de raha hai” in his usual satirical tone.
