Nepotism is a phenomenon that is highly evident in the film industry than in any other. Though family backing can’t make anyone amass stardom, it definitely acts as a launch-pad. The successors from Nandamuri, Akkineni, Konidela, Ghattamaneni and Daggubati families are enjoying successful careers in Tollywood now.
But lady luck is lending a deaf ear to the successors of directors. Vintage director Vedantam Raghavaiah made classics like Devadasu and Swarna Manjari. His daughter Shubha who debuted as heroine through Krishna’s Guduputaani failed to build a successful career and became a supporting actress afterwards. Same thing happened with Eelapata Raghuramaiah’s daughter Roopa who has confined herself to the small screen.
Legendary directors Dasari Narayana and K Raghavendra Rao failed to establish the acting careers of their sons. Dasari introduced his son Arun with Greeku Veerudu under his own direction which flopped miserably. Though Arun continues to act in minor roles till today, he never got the recognition he wanted.
Raghavendra Rao’s son Prakash debuted with Neetho produced by Ushakiran Movies. It was a flop and Prakash took the director’s path after it. Super hit director Kodandarami Reddy introduced his son Vaibhav with Godava in 2007. He also failed to substantiate his career and is now acting in minor roles in Kollywood. Adi Pinisetty, son of Ravi Raja Pinisetty is working hard to make an impact in both Tamil and Telugu industries as a leading actor but is enjoying a great stint as a supporting actor currently.
Sathamanam Bhavati director Satish Vegesna is introducing his son Sameer Vegesna with his upcoming film Kothi Kommachi. Real Star Srihari’s son Mehamsh is playing one of the leading roles in it. Let’s wait and see whether Sameer can break this sentiment and becomes successful.
