Will Chiranjeevi release his shelved project ‘Abu’ on OTT?

Chiranjeevi was about to make his Hollywood debut as Abu in ‘Return of the Thief of Baghdad’ in 1999, however, it didn’t materialize and the project was shelved. Fans demand that the Megastar release the footage of the scrapped film on OTT, similar to Balayya’s ‘Narthanasala’.

Nandamuri Balakrishna started the new trend of releasing unfinished movies in the past on OTT platforms. His prestigious film ‘Narthanasala’ which was shelved way back in 2004 is releasing on Shreyas ET in Pay-Per-View format on October 24th. Balayya has shot 17 minutes of footage with leading actors like Soundarya, Sarath Babu and Real Star Sri Hari in the initial days. This footage according to him is going to entice the audiences and Balayya will donate the proceedings to the Basavatarakam Charitable Trust.

Megastar Chiranjeevi started a Pan-Indian magnum opus named ‘Return of the Thief of Baghdad’ in the late 90s. It was later shelved as makers thought that the film will not be viable for them. Abu was mired in controversies as Islamic organizations alleged that the film’s team had drenched the Quran in tea to create an antique feel.

‘Basha’ fame Suresh Krissna directed it, AR Rahman was roped in to score the music for the shelved project. Mega fans hope that Chiranjeevi will tread Balayya’s way and release the footage shot and provide a feast for them. Let’s hope that Megastar will respond positively to his fans’ desire.
