Until yesterday it was liquor… now even petrol prices have surged… The fuel prices are on fire. The prices have increased like never before with the increasing VAT and other taxes. The prices in Vijayawada on Tuesday were Rs 92.18 for a litre of petrol and Rs 85 for diesel. The prices increase based on the crude oil prices internationally and the exchange value of Rupee to Dollar. However, the prices have increased like never before.
After the YSRCP came into power, it increased taxes in various departments and also imposed new taxes. The government is not leaving any opportunity to collect taxes. In the name of depositing money in the name of one scheme or the other, the government is collecting money from the common man by increasing petrol and diesel prices. The government is imposing 31 percent tax on petrol and 22.5 percent on diesel. AP stands third in petrol prices whereas Mumbai stands second.
In south India, AP stands first. The government imposed an additional 4 percent tax and also Re 1 as road development cess, which means the government is collecting Rs 5 per litre. The prices are Rs 3 to Rs 5 more than those of the neighbouring states. While the diesel rates are higher in other states, the petrol rate is more in AP. Though Telangana has 34 percent tax, AP has other taxes.
The prices of petrol have crossed Rs 100 in the country. The petrol has hit a century in Rajasthan’s Ganganagar. The price of petrol is Rs 97.73 whereas the premium petrol price is Rs 100. This is the first time the prices have gone beyond Rs 100. Rajasthan government decreased 4 percent VAT. AP also decreased VAT to 34 percent but increased other taxes. If the AP continues to increase taxes, the petrol would soon hit the century mark. During last year in June, the petrol prices were Rs 74.21 and diesel prices were 68.15 percent.
