The government revised the prices of liquor. Jaganmohan Reddy government took a decision in this regard.
A decision has been taken decreasing the prices by 25 per cent in the medium and premier category. The price has been decreased from Rs 40 to a maximum of Rs 1,350. The revised rates will come into effect from Friday. The decreased prices will be applicable to IMFL and foreign liquor.
Rs 50 has been decreased on a liquor that costs between Rs 250 to Rs 300.
Prices increased hastily
YS Jaganmohan Reddy during his election campaign had promised to prohibit alcohol if his party would be voted to power. Immediately after coming into power, alcohol shops were reduced and prices hiked, in a bid to reduce alcohol consumption. The brands preferred by boozers were removed and low-quality liquor was made available for higher prices.
This has resulted in the preparation of country-made liquor and has increased the menace of liquor smuggling to the tune of lakhs of rupees on a daily basis. Even after taking stringent measures, the government could not control the smuggling.
With incidents like these, the government has taken a decision to decrease the prices. There is a talk among people that the Jagan government has gone back on its promise of implementing prohibition.
