Tollywood is known for its dislike for experimental cinema. Our viewers are not big fans of realistic movies and tragic endings unlike Tamil audiences. That’s why most of the stars stay away from these kinds of scripts even though they wish to be part of it. Even when a star chooses a hit ‘experimental’ movie in another language to be remade into Telugu, the director and writers tweak the original script beyond recognition to accommodate all the commercial elements and transform it into ‘Experimental-Commercial’.
Mega brothers Chiranjeevi and Pawan Kalyan are acting in remakes now which are said to a sort of path-breaking movies in their original language. Megastar Chiranjeevi has given his nod to act in the Telugu remake of Malayalam blockbuster ‘Lucifer’ under the direction of VV Vinayak. It is a powerful political thriller which revolves around the power-play for the Chief Minister’s chair. Mohanlal played the protagonist in the movie which was made by Prithviraj Sukumaran. Surprisingly Mohanlal doesn’t have a heroine in this film. But as our Tollywood audiences cannot imagine Chiru without his signature dance moves, Vinayak is going to cast a heroine in it.
Pawan Kalyan’s comeback film ‘Vakeel Saab’ is a remake of Bollywood film ‘Pink’. Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu played the lead roles in this legal thriller. The protagonist’s character doesn’t have a heroine in the original owing to his age. When Ajith remade ‘Pink’ in Tamil as ‘Nerkonda Paarvai’, director H Vinoth casted Vidya Balan as the protagonist’s wife. The same format is applied by director Venu Sriram for ‘Vakeel Saab’ by casting Shruti Haasan as Pawan’s wife. Let’s see how these changes would impact the result of both the films.
