An earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale hit Greece and Turkey, wreaking havoc in the Aegean resort city of Izmir. According to reports, around 26 people were killed and over 800 injured in the natural disaster. The quake triggered a Tsunami warning, as seawater gushed through the town of Izmir which has three million residents.
Several netizens took to social media and shared many heart-wrenching images and videos that clearly show the intensity of the quake. In one such image, a dog could be seen asking people for help to save its owner from the rubble.
According to the US Geological Survey, the epicentre of the major quake was identified around 14 kilometres off the Greek town of Karlovasi on Samos, which led to 196 aftershock tremors.
