State Election Commissioner C Partha Sarathi and Election Authority DS Lokesh Kumar in a press conference held on Tuesday said that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections will be held on December 1st, with the election results to be declared on December 4th. Candidates from various parties contesting in the polls can file their nominations from November 18th and the scrutiny to be completed on November 21st. The withdrawal of nominations can be done by November 22nd, with the final candidate list to be declared at 3 PM on the very day.
The GHMC elections this time will be held using ballot papers instead of EVMs following the consent of various political parties. According to the final electoral rolls, around 74,000 voters are expected to exercise their franchise. The elections will be held amidst strict security measures with several surveillance teams and 48,000 polling personnel deployed to ensure smooth polling.
While speaking about the Model Code of Conduct, the State Election Commissioner said that calamity relief of Rs 10,000 to rain-affected families as announced by the Telangana Government has been excluded. However, the SEC made it clear that the financial assistance should be transferred directly into the beneficiary account instead of physical distribution.
