Delhiites woke up to bone-chilling cold in the month of November with temperatures having dropped four times on the 3rd, 20th, 23rd and 24th. The Indian Meteorological Department stated that the month of November was the coldest since that of 1949 as the mean minimum temperatures dropped to 10.2°C. In November 1949 the temperature in Delhi had dropped to 10.2°C, in 1938 it dropped to 9.6°Celsius, in 1931 it was 9°Celsius and in 1930 it was 8.9°Celsius.
For those unversed, a cold wave is declared by the Indian Meteorological Department when the mean minimum temperature drops lower than 10°Celsius, for two consecutive days. Meanwhile, the month of October was the coldest in Delhi after 58-years.
