Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan met with the US Consul General Joel Reifman, and other key officers- David Moyer (Public Affairs Officer), Sean Ruthe (Pol/Econ Chief) in Hyderabad. Speaking on the occasion, the US Consul General told the CM that they had visited Visakhapatnam and were very satisfied with the facilities in the city. He said his government was interested in setting up a hub in Visakhapatnam.
The AP CM in his interaction said that he was keen to have the US govt set up an innovation hub and a business incubator, similar to the one in Delhi. ‘Nexus’ an Innovation and Entrepreneurship Hub, powered by the US Embassy and ACIR was set up in the national capital at the American Centre in 2018. It is learnt that the US Consul General Joel Reifman responded positively to the request of setting up a hub in Vizag following the request made by the AP CM. All required assistance and basic infrastructure would be provided in setting up the hub, the CM assured the US Consul General, adding that the ties between AP Govt and the US need to strengthen further.
The AP CM informed the US Embassy officials that their government has made the English language mandatory in all government schools, given the importance of the language and that 98% schools have English as the medium of instruction. The CM also stated that there was a necessity to train teachers in the language.
The CM also said that US cooperation is needed in developing Vizag as a smart city. YS Jagan expressed happiness over Telugu people playing a key role in the development of the country.
