All-out efforts are being made to attack the financial base of the opposition leaders and also the critics in AP. The ruling YSRCP is implementing the strategy of making their opponents fall in line by attacking their financial bases. This has happened in the Prakasam district in the case of Gottipati Ravi Kumar. There have been efforts to attack the TDP MLAs and their business by imposing penalties to the tune of hundreds of crores. There is a talk going on that there were efforts to target businessmen. They said that the harassment has increased after the YSRCP had assumed power. Unable to bear the pressure, few even joined the YSRCP and BJP.
- The YSRCP targeted the main leader in Rayalaseema, former Minister JC Diwakar Reddy. The government seized quarries of JC Diwakar Reddy and imposed hundreds of crores in penalty. The owner of Diwakar travels, brother of Diwakar Reddy, Prabhakar Reddy was sent to jail.
- The YSRCP government even targeted the GITAM University belonging to Sri Bharat, a TDP leader and nephew of film star Balakrishna. The government demolished a boundary line of 40.51 acres of land in Rushikonda under Yendada limits stating that it was government land. MP V Vijayasai Reddy wrote to Union Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal and UGC chairman Indrapal Singh alleging that they gave wrong information to get the ownership rights of the land to get status of a deemed university and wanted action against the University.
- The government cancelled the lease of former MLA Pothula Ramarao’s granite quarry in Prakasam district. The quarry permits were as he was close to Ravi Kumar and his reluctance to join the YCP. It also seized several quarries belonging to MLA Gottipati Ravi and penalized him with Rs 324 Crore.
- The quarry of former BJP MP Garikapati Mohan Rao was also seized. He was previously in the TDP and was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Telangana. Notices were issued for the quarry located in Ballikurava area of Prakasam district for violating the rules and fined Rs 200 crore. However, he went to court and the government gave a second notice and the permits were immediately stopped.
- In Visakhapatnam district, TDP leaders and close associates of TDP leaders are also being targeted. The lease of Fusion Food owned by Harshavardhan was cancelled on the grounds that he was close to the TDP. The articles were thrown on the road as soon as the notices were given.
- The house of another TDP leader Sabbam Hari was also demolished on charges of encroachment upon municipal land. On the contrary, Sabbam Hari said he did get any notice.
- Key leaders in the TDP Ganta Srinivasa Rao and Narayana, the head of Narayana Educational Institutions, have also been attacked economically. There are rumours that Shidda Raghava Rao, Karanam Balaram and others were also joining the YSRCP due to financial reasons.
- There are allegations that the YSRCP government has also targeted TDP MP and Amara Raja Group leader Galla Jayadev. The YSRCP government last year cancelled the land allotment given earlier to Amara Raja Group Infra Tech, a subsidiary of Amara Raja Group.
- In the case of Ashok Gajapathi Raju, the YSRCP has targeted in all ways including the MANSAS Trust, Simhachalam Board. Ashok Gajapathi Raju was removed from the trust board who is the hereditary chairman of more than 120 temples.
However, the comments made by BJP state president Somu Veerraju are also in these directions. We can understand the situation as he has made comments in such a way that the leaders who join BJP can save their assets.
